3 Reasons to Get Same-Day Dental Crowns

same-day-crowns

If you have an infected tooth that needs to be restored with a dental crown, or if you’re just interested in replacing unsightly gold or steel crown with a more natural-looking option, Crossroads Family Dentistry can help!

At our practice, Dr. Faulconer, Dr. Dais, and Dr. Underwood all specialize in same-day CEREC crowns. You can get a crown designed and placed in just two hours, saving you time and making it easy for you to get the treatment you need.

Why should you get same day dental crowns instead of traditional crowns? Here are just a few reasons:

1. You Don’t Have to Fit two Appointments Into Your Busy Schedule

It can be tough to fit multiple dental appointments into your busy schedule, especially if you need to take time away from work in order to come into the office.

Traditional crowns require two appointments. At your first appointment, your tooth will be prepared and molds will be taken in order to create your crown. Then, you’ll have to wait for days while these molds are sent to a third-party lab where your crown is produced. This means you’ll have to manage two appointments, possibly scheduled weeks apart.

In contrast, same-day dental crowns can be placed in just one appointment, which saves you quite a bit of time and hassle.

2. No Messy, Uncomfortable Dental Impressions

Digital same-day crowns use specialized cameras and other tools to create a comprehensive 3D image of your mouth without using dental impressions.

Dental impressions are often uncomfortable for patients. Two trays must be filled with dental putty and placed in the mouth to take a mold of the teeth. Because these trays are thick and do not taste good, some patients with strong gag reflexes are extremely uncomfortable during the impression process.

If you choose a same day crown, you can avoid dental impressions and still get the crown you need.

3. No Need for Annoying Temporary Crowns

Because traditional crowns require two appointments, you will need to have a temporary crown placed while you wait for your permanent crown. This usually takes somewhere between two to three weeks, but delays are not uncommon.

Temporary crowns are typically fragile and can be somewhat uncomfortable because they’re made of a lower-quality acrylic resin and are secured with a temporary dental cement. You may find it annoying to brush your teeth, chew and speak with a temporary crown.

Because same day CEREC crowns are built and placed in just one appointment, there’s no reason to bother with temporary crowns.
