Dental Implants in Oklahoma City

Dental implants are the best way to restore one or more missing teeth. While they are more expensive than dental bridges and dentures, they offer a truly permanent tooth restoration that will last you for the rest of your life with proper care.

At Crossroads Family Dentistry, Dr. Faulconer, Dr. Dais and Dr. Underwood are all experienced with implant dentistry. If you are interested in dental implants in Oklahoma City, book a consultation with our team and see if dental implants are right for you.

Dental Implants – The Basics

Dental implants consist of two primary parts. A “post” and a “crown”. The post is made of titanium or zirconium, and inserted directly into your gum tissue where your lost tooth use to be. Your gum and jaw are given time to heal and fuse to the post. The secured post acts as an artificial “root”.

Once fully healed, an “abutment” is attached to the post. Then a crown is manufactured to mimic the size and shape of your missing tooth, and it is permanently attached with a strong dental adhesive.

Because of this unique, two-part implantation process, dental implants look and feel completely natural, and they will last for decades with proper care.

The Dental Implant Process

The first step is figuring out if you’re a good candidate for dental implants. You can find out if you are eligible with a consultation at Crossroads Family Dentistry.

At your first appointment, Dr. Faulconer, Dr. Dais or Dr. Underwood will implant the post into your mouth. A small opening is made in the gum tissue under a local anesthetic, the post is placed, and the area is sealed with stitches. Over the next 3-6 months, this post will become permanently bonded to the surrounding jawbone and gum tissue.

During this time, your crown will be prepared. Your mouth will be imaged, and casts may be taken of your teeth. Then, this information will be sent to a lab, where an artificial tooth will be prepared from porcelain. This tooth will be the exact same size, shape, and color as your original tooth.

When your mouth has fully healed, the crown will be attached to the abutment and your smile will be fully restored!

The Benefits Of Dental Implants

  • Totally natural look and feel – You will not be able to tell the difference between your dental implant and your natural teeth when chewing, speaking, biting, and smiling.
  • Permanent restoration – Dentures usually only last about 3-5 years, and most dental bridges fail after about 15 years. In contrast, dental implants can easily last 30+ years with proper care.
  • Requires no special care – Brush and floss normally, and see Crossroads Family Dentistry for regular 6-month teeth cleanings. That’s it! No special care is needed for a dental implant.
  • Can be used for other treatments – Our team of dentists can use dental implants as a base for bridges, crowns, partials or even full dentures if they are part of your dental plan at some point in your life.
