Root Canals in Oklahoma City

If you cannot enjoy morning coffee without pain from your sensitive tooth, or have just experienced sudden pain in the back of your mouth, you may have an infection in the pulp of your tooth. Luckily, this pain and sensitivity doesn’t have to last with modern root canal therapy.

For many patients, the words “root canal therapy” will keep them up even more than tooth pain itself. This doesn’t have to be the case, though. At Crossroads Family Dentistry, we can make cleaning the infection quick and painless. During your appointment, we’ll get to the root of your pain and develop a comprehensive treatment plan. With our help, even smallest toothache can find relief before it becomes a bigger problem. If you need an appointment for us to examine your teeth or help relieve your pain, contact Crossroads Family Dental at 405-384-7933.

Signs of a Root Canal

Despite all the care we may take when cleaning our teeth, root canals can still happen to the best of us. When cracks, chips, or deep pockets and pits in the tooth trap food, this can lead to infection or decay. There is also a chance that repeated dental procedures will weaken the tooth, leading to damage. If these problems are allowed to develop, root canal therapy may be necessary. Although often left undetected, some of the more noticeable symptoms of a root canal are listed below:

  • tooth discomfort or sensitivity
  • swelling of the gums around the tooth
  • decay above or below the surface of the tooth
  • pain ranging from minimal to severe

Why Six Month Appointments Are Important

While a root canal may not cause pain right away, it’s important to seek treatment quickly and maintain your six-month appointments to accurately locate the infection and prevent it from worsening, which can cause further tooth decay or the overall loss of the infected tooth if left untreated.

Does Root Canal Therapy Hurt?

While root canal therapy may have once been a more painful procedure, modern dentistry has made it possible for root canal treatment to be no more painful than getting a filling. If you’re still concerned, we offer sedation options that can put you to sleep for the entire procedure.

Your Root Canal Appointment With Us

After we’ve confirmed that a root canal treatment can solve your oral pain, we’ll prepare you for treatment by beginning with the application of a local anesthetic. A small hole will be drilled into the surface of the tooth to effectively extract the infected pulp of the tooth and clear out any remaining bacteria. Once the tooth has been cleaned and prepared, a strong rubber-like material will fill the hole to protect the tooth’s integrity. After that, a temporary or permanent filling is applied to seal the tooth. If the damage was too large for a filling, a permanent dental crown can be fitted and placed at your next appointment, so you can quickly go back to sipping your favorite Starbucks coffee or enjoying lunch out at your local Oklahoma City cafe. Best of all, you won’t have to change your normal dental hygiene routine after the treatment.
