Broken Tooth? Get a New Crown Today!

A broken tooth is never a good thing. Whether you’ve suffered an impact injury, a hard hit in a contact sport, or even if you were simply chewing something hard when your tooth broke, you’ll need to see a dentist right away.

At Crossroads Family Dentistry, we offer same-day dental crowns to care for cracked, broken, or chipped teeth immediately.

What Should I Do If My Tooth Breaks?

The first thing you should do is call Crossroads Family Dentistry. A broken tooth is a dental emergency, especially if the enamel is cracked to such an extent that the root of the tooth is exposed. This can cause a painful and dangerous tooth infection.

After you’ve given Crossroads Family Dentistry a call to schedule your appointment, try to recover the fragments of your tooth, if possible. This will help Dr. Faulconer, Dr. Dais, or Dr. Underwood understand the cause of your dental injury.

Next, you should try to treat your pain and discomfort until your appointment. Most broken teeth will not bleed. But if the tooth is bleeding, that means the injury was very severe, and reaches the nerve tissue and pulp.

Treat bleeding by applying pressure with sterile gauze or cotton balls. You can also take acetaminophen or ibuprofen to deal with pain and swelling. Ice packs can also help, but make sure to always apply them to the exterior of the mouth, and never directly on the site of your broken tooth.

What Is A Same-Day Crown? How Does It Work?

Using advanced CEREC technology, our doctors can design and build a porcelain crown for your tooth in just half an hour. They’ll apply your new crown directly to your tooth and restore it in a single appointment.

When you arrive for your appointment, our doctors will assess your broken tooth, and confirm whether a crown is the best option. X-rays may be taken. A root canal may also be required, if the nerve tissue is exposed and has become infected.

Next, the remaining tooth structure will be filed down to create a stable surface for the dental crown. One of our doctors will take images and scans of your mouth, and then use a CEREC machine to create a porcelain crown that will fit perfectly over the tooth structure.

To finish the procedure, we’ll check the crown for fit, and bond it permanently in place  to restore your broken tooth. That’s it! It only takes a single appointment, and usually less than two hours to replace a broken tooth at Crossroads Family Dentistry.
